Man Utd transfer blow as European giants enter race for Atalanta striker Rasmus Hojlund

MANCHESTER UNITED have suffered a blow in their hopes of signing Rasmus Hojlund.

The Dane has been subject to interest from the Red Devils as manager Erik ten Hag hopes to boost his frontline.

Man United are yet to agree a deal with Atalanta for Hojlund, 20, and that has allowed a European giant to enter the race.

Fabrizio Romano has suggested that PSG are throwing their hats into the ring to sign the promising striker.

He claims that the Ligue 1 champions have enquired about the player’s availability ahead of a potential move.

It has also been argued that while personal terms with the player are “never an issue” as he is “very keen” on the move, Man United are still yet to make an “official offer”.

Hojlund’s trainer had appeared to drop a hint that a deal with the club was close with an Instagram post on June 10.

This is because the Old Trafford outfit are prioritising the deal to sign Andre Onana from Inter Milan.

PSG have lost Lionel Messi this summer and could also sell Kylian Mbappe after he revealed he would not sign a new contract.

This would leave the French club needing more firepower with Hojlund a potential target.

Meanwhile Man United also need a new striker following the exit of Wout Wehgorst and rumoured sale of Anthony Martial.

The club’s top target is Harry Kane but they face competition from PSG and Bayern Munich for his signature.

They have confirmed the arrival of England international Mount, 24, in a £60million move from Chelsea, who made his debut against Leeds in a pre-season friendly yesterday.

Boss Erik ten Hag is still desperate to bolster his squad this summer in a number of positions ahead of their tricky start to the 2023/24 campaign.

But he has been left frustrated by United’s lack of transfer activity, which has arisen in part due to the uncertainty surrounding the club’s ownership and FFP rules.

The takeover process is still ongoing despite claims last month that the Qatari group was set to complete a deal, and the Glazers have been unwilling to spend money on players given they are about to relinquish control of the club.

We then revealed how he only had a £100m transfer budget due to FFP restrictions – meaning he must offload several players to boost the funds – especially after forking out for Mount.
