Man Utd to hand Erik ten Hag new contract whoever completes takeover from Glazers less than year after he joined

ERIK TEN HAG is set to be offered a new contract by Manchester United regardless of whether a takeover is completed, according to reports.

The Dutchman has made a huge impact in his first season at Old Trafford after joining from Ajax last summer.

Ten Hag, 53, won his first trophy as United boss last month in the Carabao Cup, with his side also still in contention in the FA Cup and Europa League.

United’s owners the Glazer family are in talks to sell the club for up to £6billion.

Despite potentially being about to sanction a sale, United chiefs want to reward Ten Hag for his good work with a new deal.

And according to the Mirror, potential buyers Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Sheikh Jassim Bin Hamad Al Thani are behind the Dutchman and feel that he is the right man to take the Red Devils forward.

Ratcliffe visited Old Trafford in person for talks during the week, even reportedly meeting Ten Hag – while Sheikh Jassim sent a team of trusted associates.

Sheikh Jassim’s bid is reportedly worth £5bn but he is promising to wipe the club’s debt and fund upgrades for both Old Trafford and Carrington.

Bidders were told on Thursday that they would have ten days to submit their next offers.

Ten Hag penned a three-year contract worth £27million to join Man United from Ajax last summer.

United possess an option to extend their manager’s current deal by a further 12 months.

But they feel that he has earned an improved contract altogether.

RB Leipzig reportedly offered Ten Hag more than Man United did last summer.

But while he respected the German side’s project, Ten Hag was more taken by the allure of managing a club the size of United.
