Man Utd ‘target Champions League defender with £44m transfer release clause.. but face competition from Liverpool’

MANCHESTER UNITED are reportedly chasing Real Sociedad star Robin Le Normand – but they face stiff competition from Liverpool.

The 26-year-old centre-back, who was born in France, came through the ranks with Brest in Ligue 2 before he was snapped up by the Spaniards.

Real Sociedad’s Robin Le Normand is being chased by Man Utd and LiverpoolRex

He made the move to Real Sociedad in 2016 and helped them to Copa del Rey success three years later.

Last season he helped the club to a fourth place finish in LaLiga and his displays were soon rewarded on the international stage.

He made his debut for Spain earlier this year and was part of the squad that lifted the Uefa Nations League trophy during the summer.

Le Normand has continued his impressive form this term both domestically and in the Champions League, starting all three of his team’s group matches.

Now TEAMtalk claims that United and Liverpool are both plotting a swoop for him at the end of the campaign.

They claim that the Premier League teams are both “looking at defensive reinforcements” with scouts deployed around the globe looking to unearth a gem.

This report states talent spotters from each respective club “have taken note of Le Normand and they like what they have seen” from the ace.

Le Normand, who turns 27 next month, signed a new contract at San Sebastian during the summer.

That ties him to them until at least June 2026.

However, he is reported to have a release clause that is worth £43.6m.

And that could mean that Real Sociedad face a difficult task to hang on to their defender should that fee be met by either of England’s red powerhouses.
