Manchester City vs Brighton preview

Neutrals have a cracker to look forward to at the Etihad Stadium when treble-winning Manchester City host Brighton on Saturday afternoon.

Both flew out of the gates with dominant wins and bags full of goals, but both have stumbled of late.

Following a 100% start to the season, Manchester City have lost three of their last four in all competitions, including a damaging defeat to title rivals Arsenal just before the international break.

The Cityzens are now third in the division with 18 points from a possible 24 – but trail leaders Tottenham and Arsenal by two points.

Pep Guardiola’s side have been forced to admit just how influential Spanish midfielder Rodri is to their plans having lost all their games during his three-match suspension.

But he’s now back in action and a change of fortunes is the most likely outcome with the bookies pricing the hosts at odds-on 4/9 to collect maximum points this weekend.

Never deterred by being the underdogs, Brighton have already beaten Newcastle and Manchester United this campaign – while also taking points off Liverpool.

But consistency has been the issue for Roberto De Zerbi’s side. As mentioned, they’ve had terrific highs – but they’ve also suffered lows including heavy defeats to Aston Villa and West Ham.

Manchester City vs Brighton betting tips

Thriving Phil…

Don’t ask me why, but Phil Foden comes alive against Brighton.

The attacking midfielder, 23, has scored SIX goals and provided one assist in eight appearances against the Seagulls – his best record against any club side.

He’s only failed to score in one of the last six meetings – home and away – and should be right in the thick of the action again this weekend.

Only Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez have had more attempts on target than Foden this season, and nobody has created more big chances (20) than the England international.

Our tip: Phil Foden to score or assist at 10/11 with Paddy Power – CLAIM HERE

Goals…

As mentioned, Manchester City haven’t exactly enjoyed themselves recently. In fact, the only match they’ve won in the last four was their Champions League fixture against RB Leipzig – and guess who was available for that one.

Rodri is indeed back having served his three-match suspension, and will return to the starting XI. That will be crucial for Pep Guardiola’s side, who’ve won their last four on the spin at the Etihad.

Brighton certainly won’t die wondering, and will not alter their style for anyone. They are the league’s top-scoring side with 21 in eight matches, but they also have the fourth-worst defensive record in the division with only Burnley, Luton and Sheffield United having conceded more.

Fouls…

Solly March has found himself as Brighton’s fourth-choice senior left-back having played there against Liverpool in the 2-2 draw at the Amex Stadium.

He may well find himself playing there again this weekend, and will have his hands full with the hosts expected to see more possession.

No Brighton player has committed more fouls than March (10 in 466 competitive minutes) while Brighton rank as having conceded the third most fouls in the league.
