LP Lawmaker, Chimaobi Atu; Kenneth Okonkwo Condemn Ajaero’s Arrest
The Enugu North/South member in the House of Representatives, Chimaobi Atu and former spokesman Obi/Datti campaign council, Kenneth Okonkwo, have condemned the arrest of Joe Ajaero by the Department of State Services (DSS).
Hon. Chimabo Atu and Kenneth Okonkwo described the arrest of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) president as a case of intimidation of organized labour.
In his statement on his X handle on Tuesday, the Labour Party Reps member, Atu reminded the federal government that no society develops without respect for human rights.
“The arrest and release of NLC leader is a clear case of intimidation. No democratic society develops in the absence of clear respect for human rights. We stand firmly with labour unions,” Atu wrote.
On his part, the Nollywood legend, Okonkwo, on Monday stated that President Bola Tinubu’s government is racing to self-destruction.
He argued that Ajaero was guaranteed administrative bail and should not have been arrested as he was still covered by his bail.
“Why is this government racing speedily to self destruction. Why arrest Joe Ajero while he is already on administrative bail by the Police for the purported terrorism related issue. The law is that you don’t arrest someone and commence investigation.
“You arrest someone to take him to court. Arrest presumes that investigation has been completed. If the government has anything against Joe Ajero, let them take him to court, not their gulag. Otherwise, this is nothing other than intimidation and manipulation,” he wrote on his X handle.
