Liverpool turn attention to Nottingham Forest transfer target in desperate hunt for midfielder after Moises Caicedo snub

LIVERPOOL are reportedly set to rival Nottingham Forest in the chase for Ibrahim Sangare after missing out on Moises Caicedo.

The Reds agreed a £111m fee with Brighton last week for the 21-year-old Ecuadorian midfielder.

But Caicedo rejected a move to Anfield as he has had his heart set on a move to Chelsea from the beginning of the window.

Chelsea have now had a British transfer record bid of £115m accepted by Brighton, a fee that eclipses the previous £107m record they paid Benfica for Enzo Fernandez in January.

That snub has left Jurgen Klopp desperately looking elsewhere for reinforcements after losing a host of midfielders over the summer.

And now Liverpool are interested in PSV Eindhoven’s Sangare, according to ex-Manchester City ace Kiki Musampa.

The 46-year-old is the brother of the French-Ivorian and he claims that the Reds are one of three European big guns chasing his sibling’s signature.

Forest have also been interested in the 25-year-old but they were unable to meet the Eredivisie side’s asking price.

The Ivory Coast international, who arrived at PSV from Toulouse in 2020, has a £32m release clause in his contract.

And despite Steve Cooper’s Forest still chasing a deal, they allegedly face hefty competition from Liverpool, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain.

Speaking to Good Morning Eredivisie, Musampa said: “There are big clubs that are interested, such as Bayern Munich.

“Ibrahim is also on the list at Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool, but he is not yet a priority there.

“Nottingham Forest had already made an offer, but that was not enough.”
