Plans are underway to convert the Igbogbo Mini Stadium in Ikorodu, Lagos State, to a full multipurpose sports ground in fulfilment of the campaign promises of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to uplift the socio-economic development of the State.

The Executive Chairman, Lagos State Sports Commission, Mr. Sola Aiyepeku, disclosed this during a recent working visit to Ikorodu to inspect some of the Sporting Facilities in the Community.

Aiyepeku said the plan is to ensure that the Igbogbo Mini Stadium is upgraded in the nearest future, stressing that the vision of the Government is to open up every part of the State so that the youths would be fully engaged.

The Chairman, who was accompanied by the Commission’s Director-General, Mr. Oluwatoyin Gafaar, added that when the stadium is upgraded and put into use, residents of Ikorodu and environs will have the opportunity to participate in public and private sponsored sporting activities at the stadium.

In his contribution, Mr. Gafaar said the focus of the Commission is on school sports, adding that the long term plan of the Government is to convert Igbogbo Mini Stadium to a standard stadium having many other sporting facilities such as Beach Soccer field, Five-A-Side Soccer field and other multipurpose facilities.

He said, “At the Igbogbo mini stadium, the government is proposing to rebuild it to a standard multipurpose sports ground. When completed, it will improve the social life of the people of Ikorodu”.

The team also visited the Ikorodu Youth Centre at Ita-Elewa area, facilitated by Mr. Babajimi Benson – representing Ikorodu at the Federal House of Representatives – where facilities such as Five-A-Side Football, Basketball, Volleyball and Netball fields with spectators stand as well as spaces for board games are available for the use of the residents of the community.
