Labour Party Threatens To Boycott Anambra LG Election
The Labour Party (LP) in Anambra East Local Government Area of Anambra State has warned about a potential boycott of the upcoming Local Government (LG) election.
Naija News reports that the State’s LG elections are scheduled for September 28.
However, in a statement issued on Friday, the LP chairman of the Anambra East LGA, Chidi Chinwuba, and the party’s Secretary, Onyeka Aghadiuno, called on the public to ignore any candidate lists disseminated by the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC) that feature LP candidates from the Local Government Area.
The Labour Party clarified that the party did not authorize such lists.
The LP emphasized that it had neither conducted primaries to select candidates nor submitted names to ANSIEC.
Consequently, the two party leaders urged the commission to remove any individuals falsely representing themselves as LP candidates for the elections in the area.
They also warned of potential legal action against the commission if it proceeds to publish any names of LP candidates for the electoral process in the region.
“LP Anambra East Chapter wishes to disassociate itself from the September 28 LG elections in the state.
“The party, through its rightful leadership, has issued a statement that we, as a party, are not participating in the election.
“The general public is hereby urged to disregard the list published by ANSIEC as the names attached to the LP in Anambra East did not originate from the party,” the party stated.
