Just In: Shekarau Dumps APC, Defects To NNPP

Former Kano State Governor, Senator Ibrahim Shekarau has officially dumped the All Progressives Congress (APC) and joined the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

The development was confirmed on Tuesday afternoon via a terse statement on the official Twitter handle of the NNPP.

The statement which reads: “Finally: Sen Ibrahim Shekarau Join Us” was shared alongside a picture of Senator Shekarau and Senator Ibrahim Kwankwaso.

It will be recalled there had been some back and forth about Shekarau’s planned defection to the NNPP with some power brokers in the APC said to be negotiating with him not to leave the ‘broom party.’

However, Naija News also recalls that Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso has been at the helm of the vanguard working to ensure Shekarau’s defection from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).

Kwankwaso on Sunday, stormed the residence of Shekarau in Kano to work out details of the defection.

The defection was to have been officially announced on Saturday but didn’t happen due to some undisclosed reasons.

However, with Kwankwaso and Shekarau’s meeting on Sunday, it is expected that an official announcement was only expected to be a matter of time.

The former Kano Governor is expected to move to the new party with his supporters and entire structure in all the 44 local government areas of Kano.
