ITV Racing set for ‘mad’ weekend with Breeders’ Cup and Charlie Hall at Wetherby headlining 12 HOURS of coverage

ITV Racing will pull out all the stops this weekend with 12 HOURS of blockbuster coverage over Friday and Saturday.

The action kicks off with the star-studded Breeders’ Cup in California at 8.30pm on Friday on ITV3.

Ed Chamberlin and Co will cover the racing from Santa Anita where Big Evs will look to give Mick Appleby a dream win in the Juvenile Turf Sprint at 9pm, 30 minutes after coverage starts.

Simon & Ed Crisford’s Carla’s Way is the 10-3 fav in the Juvenile Fillies Turf at 10.20pm, where Oisin Murphy will ride Royal Ascot winner Porta Fortuna.

Content flies the flag in the same race for Aidan O’Brien before the Ballydoyle handlers comes back with a bang in the Juvenile Turf at 11.40.

Ryan Moore rides 5-2 fav River Tiber, while Frankie Dettori gets the leg up on 4-1 second fav Unquestionable.

Friday night’s coverage ends at midnight before the gang return on ITV1 at 1pm on Saturday.

The highlight that afternoon is the Grade 2 Charlie Hall Chase at Wetherby at 3.00, where Paul Nicholls’ Gold Cup runner-up Bravemansgame makes his seasonal return.

Grand National-winning trainer Lucinda Russell saddles Ahoy Senor, while Dan Skelton’s Midnight River and Mouse Morris’ Gentlemansgame complete the line-up.

There will also be racing from Ascot’s card but the big Champion Chase at Down Royal – that was set to see big Gold Cup chance Gerri Colombe return – has been postponed until next week due to rain.

There is a brief two-hour respite for Chamberlin – who says the volume of coverage is ‘mad’ -from 4pm until 6pm, when the massive Breeders’ Cup coverage begins.

Among the big home hopes are Inspiral in the Filly & Mare Turf (7.10) and 1000 Guineas heroine Mawj in the Mile (8.30).

But it really hots up with the Turf at 9.50 when Derby winner Auguste Rodin will go up against Juddmonte champ Mostahdaf.

BREEDERS’ CUP – TEMPLEGATE’S TOTE PLACEPOT TIPS

King Of Steel will attempt to repeat his Champions Day heroics just two weeks on under Frankie Dettori.

Victory in the huge Group 1 is worth £1.7million, with O’Brien also entering Broome and Bolshoi Ballet.

The coverage runs until 00.15 so it takes in the Classic, won last year by the unstoppable Flightline.

Ante-post fav Arcangelo was ruled out earlier this week so it’s Bob Baffert’s Arabian Knight who heads the market at 11-4.

Dettori could put the exclamation mark on his full-time return to the US with victory on 18-1 chance Zandon for trainer Chad Brown.

That’s 23 races in all – with Sun Racing giving you tips for all of them.
