Israel’s UN Envoy Exposes Council’s Selective Focus Amidst Global Crises

In an address to the United Nations Council, Israel’s Ambassador, Erlan Gidan, has shed light on the recent Christmas tragedy in Plateau state, Nigeria, where over 200 Christians fell victims to a horrifying massacre allegedly carried out by Muslims.

Gidan, not mincing words, expressed deep concerns over what he perceived as a glaring imbalance in the Council’s attention to crises in Africa and globally.

The ambassador pointed to a stark reality, emphasizing that a over 50,000 Christians in Nigeria have endured similar violent attacks over the past decade.

However, Gidan questioned the Council’s priorities, highlighting the dire situation of 1 million Muslims facing forced displacement in Pakistan, particularly the plight of 1.3 million displaced Afghans.

“As we speak, over 1 million Muslims are being forcibly removed from their homes.

I’m not discussing the situation in Gaza; I’m addressing Pakistan’s forced displacement of 1.3 million Afghans,” Ambassador Erlan Gidan asserted passionately.

In a scathing critique, Gidan called attention to the Council’s 21 convenings, primarily focused on assisting Gaza and addressing Israel’s defense against Hamas terrorists.

Notably, he underscored the absence of a single session dedicated solely to defending the rights of displaced Afghans in Pakistan.

“Why does the forced displacement of Muslims from a Muslim country not resonate with the Algerian representative and the council? I’ll tell you why. No Jews, no news,” Gidan asserted, pointing to what he perceived as a biased approach in the Council’s attention.

Gidan further criticized the Council’s repeated discussions on Gaza and Israel’s defense against Hamas terrorists, emphasizing the lack of specific attention to the forced displacement of Muslims in Pakistan.

According to the ambassador, this discrepancy underscores a perceived indifference unless the situation involves Jews.

“On Christmas, over 200 Nigerian Christians were murdered by Muslims. Over the past decade, and not less than 50,000 Christians in Nigeria have been butchered and hacked to death. Is this even a concern to the council? Again, no Jews, no news,” Gidan emphasized, leaving a powerful call for a more comprehensive and unbiased approach to addressing global crises.
