Maguire appeared to go straight through the side of the Serbian midfielder with his studs raised.

And as the 30-year-old planted his right foot he slammed it down right on top of Lukic’s ankle.

The Fulham man was left writhing in pain on the floor after the collision saw his ankle buckle underneath Maguire’s foot.

Fans were left bemused as to why referee Michael Oliver only dished the Man Utd man a yellow card and not a red.

One took to social media to write: “How on earth has VAR not sent Harry Maguire off here? Grim.”

And a second added: “That’s a bad one. VAR doing Man Utd a favour.”

A third fan chimed in writing: “Should have been straight red!”

And a fourth joked: “How is Maguire not getting sent off for that? Absolutely awful challenge!”

It was a feisty game all over the pitch with Casemiro forced off after a head-on-head collision with Harrison Reed.

And ultimately it was a game that saw the Red Devils wave goodbye to their unbeaten start to 2024 in a 2-1 loss to the Cottagers.

Fulham’s Calvin Bassey netted the first goal of the game when he smashed home his opportunity in the 65th minute to put Fulham ahead.

Maguire, having stayed on the pitch, was later able to pop up at the far post to slot the ball past Bernd Leno after he parried away a Bruno Fernandes cross in the 89th minute.

However with nine minutes added on by Michael Oliver and his refereeing team, Alex Iwobi was able to snatch all three points to take back to London.

The former Arsenal man scored a stunning goal in the 97th minute to break Man Utd hearts.
