How Inter Milan Beat AC Milan To Win 20th Serie A Title

In a cold, soaking wet evening at the San Siro, Inter Milan and their domestic rivals AC Milan, clashed in their 33rd league match of the season.

Ahead of the league game which took place on Monday, April 22, AC Milan were expected to beat Inter Milan to close in on them on the title race or probably delay them from being the 2023-2024 champions.

However, Milan couldn’t do either as Inter forced them to suffer the title race ending 1-2 defeat in front of their home fans.

From the kick-off of the game at the San Siro packed with over 75,000 spectators, Inter looked destined to triumph as Francesco Acerbi scored the match opener in the 18th minute.

The first half ended with the lone goal and the second half started with Inter doubling their lead courtesy of Marcus Thuram in the 49th minute.

Inter Milan held on to the 2-0 lead until in the 80th minute when British-born Nigerian defender, Fikayo Tomori got a goal back for Milan.

In the last minutes of the heated encounter, it was red card galore as two Milan players – Theo Hernández and Davide Calabria got red carded in the 93rd and 97th minutes respectively. inter’s Denzel Dumfries was also red-carded in the 93rd minute for violent conduct.

At the end of the dramatic encounter, Inter Milan came out with a 2-1 win which earned them 86 points in 33 games, 17 points above second-placed AC Milan with five games to go.

Inter won the 2023-2024 Serie A title after recording 27 wins, five draws, and one defeat. They have scored 79 goals and conceded 18 goals in 33 games.

Inter Milan now have second highest Serie A titles (20), 16 titles away from the most successful club in the league, Juventus who have won a record 36 league titles.
