GAYE LEGACY (3.10 Newbury, nap)
She has been in top form this season with a win at Market Rasen sandwiched between places at Chepstow and Aintree. Tom Symonds’ mare should be coming here on the back of a win — but she stumbled on the Flat at a crucial stage at Kempton last time. This six-year-old then finished like a train to grab second on the line. Stepping her up to three miles looks a wise move as she has more to offer as a stayer.
O’CONNELL (3.20 Leicester, nb)
He was unlucky to finish only fourth in the Lincolnshire National last time when beaten less than a length. He goes on any ground so more rain wouldn’t be a problem. Sue Smith’s stayer looks well ahead of the handicapper off just 111.
IMPERIAL ALEX (2.45 Leicester, treble)
Keeps going close and this looks an excellent winning chance. Tom Lacey puts cheekpieces on for the first time today but he doesn’t look like he’s not trying. He galloped through the mud at Uttoxeter for a close second last time and will appreciate this test.
INTO THE PARK (1.25 Newbury, Lucky 15 bet)
Looked ready to win when hitting the post at Taunton 15 days ago. He had plenty left in the tank and will learn from that second spin over timber.
