Horse racing tips: Templegate’s 5-1 NAP absolutely relishes this new trip and can bolt up at Ascot on Shergar Cup day

TEMPLEGATE tackles Saturday racing including Ascot’s Shergar Cup confident of landing a few winners.

Read on for our man’s top tips and back a horse by clicking their odds below.

GOLDEN MOVE (3.55 Ascot, nap)

He ran a belter when winning on handicap debut at Doncaster three Saturdays ago. He relished moving up to this distance and was running away from his rivals at the line. This is tougher but he should improve and a 5lb rise is fair.

ZOFFEE (2.10 Ascot, nb)

He has had time to recover from a rare blip in the Northumberland Plate and looks ideal for this. He ran well in the Ascot Stakes on the back of a neck second in the Chester Cup off just 1lb lower. He stays, goes on any ground and has Frankie on board.

KING OF CONQUEST (3.00 Haydock, treble)

He didn’t get the best of rides in the Wolferton at Royal Ascot and Charlie Appleby’s horses were in a slump at the time. So it wasn’t a bad effort to be beaten four lengths, especially as he’d won four in a row stylishly before that. This trip should suit on breeding and he goes on any ground.

Templegate’s TV verdicts

Ascot

1.35

EXISTENT ran up to his best when a close second at Glorious Goodwood last week and he’s 2lb lower here.

Some cut suits and he has the benefit of Tom Marquand on board which can make the difference.

Matthew Chadwick has a winning chance on his first Ascot ride since 2012 after Intrinsic Bond scored over course and distance here 14 days ago.

This trip suits and an 8lb rise may not be enough.

Bond Chairman was third in that race and is much better off at the weights. He’s not won here but has been placed on all five visits.

Frankie’s ride Dream Composer is on his last winning mark and has scored here on soft ground.

2.10

ZOFFEE has had time to recover from a rare blip in the Northumberland Plate and looks ideal for this.

He ran well in the Ascot Staks on the back of a neck second in the Chester Cup off just 1lb lower.

He stays, goes on any ground and has Frankie on board.

The Very Man ran a cracker at Galway and stays well. A 4lb rise looks fair.

Prydwen was a good third at Newmarket last time when upped to 1m6f and would be a threat if seeing out this longer trip off the same mark.

The Grand Visir would ideally want this over three miles and ran well at Goodwood latest.

He’ll be boxing on at the finish and could easily hit the frame.

2.45

SCAMPI goes back up to his best trip after a decent effort in the tough John Smith’s Cup at York last time.

He handles this ground and is still on a fair mark.

Pride Of Priory won this nicely last year and is back off the same weight with Frankie up top.

He came back from a break with a solid third at Ripon and is a big danger.

Fellow William Haggas hope La Yakel came back from nine months off with a neck second here.

He stays well and likes some cut so won’t be far away.

Andaleep scored at York before a length fourth at Yarmouth and has place claims along with consistent Youthful King who won at Windsor latest.

3.20

THE WIZARD OF EYE looks a big price having come down 2lb despite a good run on his handicap debut in the Golden Mile at Goodwood.

He’s spent most of his career in Group contests but handled the big field well and Tom Marquand on board today is a plus.

Perotto has Bauyrzhan Murzabayev in the saddle but he’s ridden plenty of winners in France with Andre Fabre among his supporters so he’s no mug.

His mount was a place behind the tip at Goodwood where he didn’t seem at home on the track. He’ll be much happier here where he’s won before.

Empirestateofmind was less than two lengths off the winner in a hot handicap here last time and is l1b lower. That gives him a big chance.

Old boy Escobar has run well here before and could be revitalised by a new rider in Saffie Osborne.

He is 5lb below his last win now which came over trip and track.

3.55

GOLDEN MOVE ran a belter when winning on handicap debut at Doncaster three Saturdays ago.

He relished moving up to this distance and was running away from his rivas at the line.

This is tougher but he should improve and a 5lb rise is fair.

Intinso has few miles on the clock and improved for moving up to 1m2f when third at Chelmsford.

He was still green there so should have a lot more to offer. The extra quarter-mile should be a plus for the Gosden runner too.

The yard also has a big chance with Salisbury scorer Rajasthan.

He came back from eight months off to land that win and hasn’t been clobbered for this handicap debut.

Satin went from the front when scoring with plenty in hand at Killarney last time.

He’s creeping up the weights but is respected for Jessica Harrington.

Rogue Sea was bumped about when down the field at Haydock last time and is better judged by his Ripon win. He can improve on his fifth run.

4.30

DARK TROOPER was an eyecatching winner at Haydock last time, coming from the back in testing ground to win with loads left in the tank.

More rain would help his chances as he likes it testing but he’s scored in quicker conditions too and has more to offer under a 3lb penalty.

Quinault made it a brilliant six wins on the spin at Newmarket last time.

He won a battle by a nose there and should be right in the hunt again despite a 7lb rise.

He’s now 38lb higher than the start of his winning run.

Washington Heights is a regular placer at this sort of level and doesn’t mind what the ground does.

He’s not won since his second race but has an each-way shout.

Batal Dubai won nicely on the all-weather at Newcastle but has scored on turf too so can’t be ignored.

Should second reserve Dream For Gold end up running he’d have a big chance after his Newmarket and Epsom seconds.

Haydock

2.25

HAFEET ALAIN is in the form of his life and was beaten just a neck in a hot handicap at Newmarket last time.

He likes this trip and is best with a little give in the ground. He’s well drawn and a 2lb rise seems fair.

Isle Of Jura is improving fast and is now 26lb higher in the handicap thanks to a Newbury and Newmarket win.

His high draw isn’t ideal but this trip is and he can take another step forward.

Poet Master enjoyed the quick conditions to win a novice contest here in first gear last month.

This longer trip should be fine on his handicap debut and there should be a lot more to come. He’s a big threat if handling this slower ground.

If Starshiba could run anywhere close to the form of his all-weather win at Newcastle he’d be a knocking each-way bet at a big price. He likes this trip.

3.00

KING OF CONQUEST didn’t get the best of rides in the Wolferton at Royal Ascot and Charlie Appleby’s horses were in a slump at the time.

So it wasn’t a bad effort to be beaten four lengths, especially as he’d won four in a row stylishly before that.

This trip should suit on breeding and he goes on any ground.

Al Aasy is the obvious danger after dropping back to this distance to land Listed honours at Newbury.

He’s not the most reliable and doesn’t really like a battle but has enough ability to go close.

Midnight Mile gets weight as a three-year-old and clocked a season’s best when winning a York Listed race well.

She likes this trip and had enough class to finish fourth at the Breeders’ Cup.

Savvy Victory comes here off a Sandown Listed success but this looks tougher, while Phantom Flight chased home Al Aasy at HQ and has place prospects.
