Graham Potter tipped to finally return to management after more than a year unemployed since Chelsea sacking

GRAHAM POTTER has emerged as a shock candidate to replace Arne Slot as Feyenoord coach.

Slot is the frontrunner to replace Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool, with The Reds boss stepping down at the end of the season.

Multiple reports suggest Slot has already signed a contract at Liverpool, although he denied this in his latest press conference.

According to The Times, Potter has been identified as Feyenoord’s preferred choice to replace Slot.

But the club are braced for competition from their old rivals Ajax to convince the Englishman to take over.

Both teams are said to be a fan of Potter’s tactical style which brought him success with Brighton.

But Potter endured a gruelling seven months at Chelsea which ended with him being sacked in April last year.

The manager has been out of work since then, despite being linked with clubs in Holland as well as the Manchester United and England jobs.

Despite his long period of time without a job, he is said to not want to rush things and is willing to wait for the right opportunity.

Apart from Potter, Feyenoord are also considering appointing Slot’s former assistant, Marino Pusic, who is currently top of the Ukrainian league with Shakhtar Donetsk.

Pusic is a disciple of Slot’s attacking brand of high-pressing, possession based football.

Feyenoord’s young and hungry squad is said to appeal to Potter, with several players thought to have high ceilings.

Despite Ajax’s struggles this season, the allure of Holland’s most prestigious club is also thought to appeal to Potter.

Potter has managed abroad in the past so moving to The Netherlands is not thought to phase him.

He managed Swedish club Ostersunds for seven years between 2011 and 2018 before moving to Swansea.
