GOVERNOR UMAHI, DEPUTY TAKE COVID-19 VACCINE; COMMENDS PRESIDENT MUHAMMADU BUHARI FOR EFFORTS IN TACKLING CORONAVIRUS
The Governor of Ebonyi State, Engineer David Nweze Umahi has received a consignment of AstraZenica Covid-19 vaccine allocated to the State by the Federal Government to enable it protect citizens against coronavirus.
Governor Umahi received the consignment from the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Daniel Umezurike at new Government House, Ochoudo Centenary City, Abakaliki on Thursday.
Shortly after receiving the vaccine said to be forty six and ninety thousand in number in the first batch, Governor Umahi and the Deputy Governor, Dr. Kelechi Igwe were innoculated with the AstraZenica Covid-19 vaccine.
Governor Umahi thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for his unrelenting efforts at ensuring holistic defeat of coronavirus in the Country, citing the procurement of the AstraZenica Covid-19 vaccine as true show of purposeful leadership.
“Let me thank Mr. President who is so concerned with the Health of our people and who made all the efforts to get this vaccine…. The beauty is, leadership, Mr. President has proven it by taking the first shot, together with the Vice President, senior Government officials and Governors and what we are doing is to inculcate confidence in our citizens considering the level of fake news that is sorrounding this vaccine”
The Governor while lauding the President for leading the way in the administration of the Covid 19 vaccine, enjoined people to continue to observe the precautionary measure against Covid 19 even after vaccination to be free from the virus.
Governor Umahi while observing that injection of the vaccine was not compulsory, encouraged the Citizens to disregard Social media fake news and avail themselves of the vaccine to be immuned against the virus.
He charged the Covid 19 team in the State to ensure close monitoring of the vaccine to ensure compliance to national guidelines in the administration of the AstraZenica vaccine.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Daniel Umezurike thanked the Governor for totally providing all requirements for the detection and treatment of Covid 19 and urged the people to feel free to take the vaccine as it has no side effects.
He said all the Health Workers have been adequately trained to deliver on their mandate according to world standard in the AstraZenica vaccine administration.
