The opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Wednesday conducted its governorship primary elections across many states of the country.
The PDP will be hoping to win back some of the states it lost in the 2015 general elections and also claim some of the states controlled by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Naija News reports that the ruling party is in charge of 22 states while the PDP controls 13 states.
The forthcoming general elections will be a make or mar for the PDP after it lost Ebonyi, Cross River and Zamfara states to the APC.
Following the outcome of the elections, all the first-term governors emerged as the flagbearers of the party and will seek another term in office.
It is understood that the governors who secured return tickets will hope to retain their seats in the 2023 general elections.
At the time of filing this report, only two first-term governors have been elected to represent the opposition party in the upcoming general elections.
The PDP governors will slug it out with other candidates from the ruling APC and other parties.
See below a list of states and APC governors who won re-election tickets.
Ahmadu Fintiri (Adamawa State)
Seyi Makinde (Oyo State)
Please note that this list will be updated as the APC conducts other gubernatorial primaries.
