Former Premier League star Mido takes swipe at Mo Salah as Egypt star recovers from injury at Liverpool

FORMER Tottenham striker Mido has ripped into Mo Salah for returning to Liverpool to undergo rehab on a hamstring injury.

The Reds forward, 31, was forced off during the second game of Egypt’s Africa Cup of Nations campaign.

He still hopes to return to Ivory Coast and play some part in his country’s tournament should they reach the latter stages.

And in a bid to speed up his recovery, Salah has jetted back to Merseyside for work on the issue.

Yet ex-Egypt striker Mido, 40, has hit out at Salah’s decision to conduct his rehabilitation in England.

The 2006 Africa Cup of Nations winner replied on social media to a picture of Salah doing some stretching exercises.

He sarcastically said: “Oh, these exercises are so dirty and rigid, it is difficult to do them except in Liverpool.”

Salah, who is yet to win Afcon with Egypt, wants to be back for the final on February 11 should his side progress.

When discussing the Egyptian’s return to Liverpool, manager Jurgen Klopp said: “If he stays in Africa and they can’t do the proper treatment, it will just delay everything, especially for Egypt if they go through the tournament.

“We bring him here not because we want to take him away from Egypt but just to offer the best medical treatment. That is all we want.

“It’s all agreed. If Salah is fit and Egypt go to the final, it was always clear; he goes back, 100 percent. Mo wants that, and we want that.

“We are completely honest, and if I said something too early… I said, ‘I think it’s agreed.’ That’s what I heard.

“The rest, some people make something out of it, and if somebody questions the loyalty of Mo Salah, they should ask themselves if their loyalty is right because Mo Salah is definitely the most loyal Egyptian I’ve met in my life.”

Three group-stage draws earned Egypt second place in Group B behind Cape Verde.

They will face DR Congo in the last 16 on Sunday.
