Forgotten Premier League star scores Puskas contender in training as baffled fans say ‘didn’t know he was still playing’

FORMER Premier League star Gerard Delofeu scored a Puskas contender in training to leave fans baffled.

Deulofeu re-created one of his most famous goals with the audacious effort that left the goalkeeper rooted to the spot.

The winger picked up the ball on the left with no team-mates around him

So he scooped the ball up and over the keeper

The winger, who played for Everton and Watford in the Prem, is now at Serie A side Udinese.

He provided many moments of magic during his time in England and he showed he still has it with a remarkable goal in training.

Deulofeu picked up the ball on the left flank but was short of options and had a defender closing him down.

So the Spaniard decided to scoop the ball up and over the keeper and into the back of the net.

The finish left fans stunned, though were some were more shocked to learn Deulofeu is still playing despite only being 30-years-old.

One reacted saying: “Can we have a best training goal award or something? The nominees might be better than the Puskas ones.”

Another added: “I didn’t know this guy was still playing.”

A third wrote: “I love when I see a random post about a player I completely forgot about. Had no idea he was at Udinese.”

Changes to the Premier League for 2024/25

NOTHING stays the same forever.

And that includes the Premier League, which is making a number of tweaks this season.

Team news will now be released 75 MINUTES before kick-off, 15 minutes earlier than had been the case before.

Things could get crowded on the touchline, with the number of substitutes permitted to warm-up boosted from three players per team to FIVE.

There’s also a change to how added time is calculated when a team scores a goal, an update to the ‘multiball’ system and the introduction of semi-automated offsides – but not straight away.

And another commented: “Beautiful goal. I’m waiting for alternate angles, and maybe a VAR check.”

Deulofeu’s strike was reminiscent of the brilliant scooped finish he scored in the 2019 FA Cup semi-final, which launched Watford’s comeback from 2-0 down to beat Wolves 3-2.

Gerard Deulofeu’s goal in the FA Cup semifinal is a highly underrated goal.

That technique is absolutely insane. pic.twitter.com/C5Qs2dHlU7
