FG Confirms When Dangote Refinery Will Start Selling Petrol
The federal government has confirmed that Dangote Refinery will start selling petrol into the Nigerian market on Sunday, September 15.
This development was confirmed during a press conference on Friday by the Executive Chairman, Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Zacch Adedeji, who spoke on behalf of the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, who is the chairman of the presidential committee on the sales of crude oil and refined products for domestic consumption.
According to him, all arrangements have been completed for the loading of the first batch of petrol from the Dangote Refinery.
He, however, noted that Dangote would only sell to the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), and other marketers could get their supply from the state-owned company.
He said, “I am glad to announce that all agreements have been put in place, and the loading of the first batch of PMS, as already announced by NNPC, will commence on Sunday, September 15, 2024. And from October 1, NNPC will commence the supply of crude oil to Dangote Refinery to be paid for in naira. In return, Dangote Refinery will supply PMS and diesel of equivalent value to the domestic market to be paid for in naira.”
“But for now, PMS will only be sold to NNPC. NNPC will then sell to various marketers.”
Also, the Minister of Finance during a press conference, confirmed the submission from the FIRS chairman.
Edun said all relevant security and regulatory agencies would be involved in the process to ensure a smooth operation.
“We are also setting up a one-stop shop that will coordinate service provision from all regulatory, and security agencies, and other stakeholders to ensure a smooth implementation of this initiative. This will be located in Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA). Lagos.
“The technical committee that worked to flesh out this initiative will transition to an implementation execution and monitoring committee that will be working out of Lagos for the next three to six months,” he said.
Edun appreciated all those who worked in the technical committee to ensure the project came into reality, saying the delivery of petrol from Dangote Refinery is a significant milestone in Nigeria’s energy drive and journey to self-reliance.
“We thank everyone for the hard work and patriotism exhibited over the last couple of weeks.
“We would sincerely like to thank Mr. President for championing this novel initiative and would like to assure Mr. President that he can count on us to implement his vision.
“This initiative marks a significant milestone in Nigeria’s journey towards energy self-sufficiency and economic growth,” the Minister said.
