Enugu 2023: I Won’t Back Down On Guber Race – Ekweremadu

Former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu has said he is not backing down from the Enugu State 2023 Governorship race.

Naija News understands that the lawmaker was reacting to calls from stakeholders in the state urging him to respect an existing zoning arrangement.

Ekweremadu, however, said he was not aware of such arrangements, hence he would not allow any form of a media campaign to deter his governorship ambition.

Speaking through the Director-General of his campaign organization, Mr. Ogbonna Asogwa, the lawmaker said he won’t be dissuaded by what he called “a galore of sponsor relies on, forgeries, intimidation, and press statements against” his ambition.

Such would neither distract nor stop the Senator from vying for the governorship of Enugu State in the 2023 general elections,” Asogwa maintained.

While dismissing the zoning document unveiled to the media earlier in the week, he said, Ekweremadu insists it is not the business of the caucus under the PDP Constitution to zone elective offices.

He said he had noted with dismay, “but with utmost trust in God, the desperation of some elements to stop His Excellency, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, PhD, CFR, from contesting the 2023 Enugu State governorship election.”

Reiterating his manifesto, Ekweremadu said he will not let some political elements deterred his bid to fashion out a new Enugu State that will provide water, employment, provide security for all, pay pensions and gratuities, equitably distribute democracy dividends and opportunities, ensure massive road and infrastructural development, statewide electricity coverage, youth and women empowerment, and engender good governance, including non-interference with local government funds.

We are happy that our recently unveiled pathway to a new Enugu overwhelmingly resonating with the people. That is what matters for now”, the campaign organisation concluded.
