Ekweremadu Clears The Air About Joining Labour Party After Dumping PDP Guber Ambition

Former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu has denounced reports in some quarters claiming he has defected to Labour Party.

The lawmaker, who two days ago withdrew from the race to emerge the next Governor of Enugu State on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) said on Friday that the trending report about his defection to the Labour Party is false.

Senator Ekweremadu in a statement by his media aide, Mr. Uche Anichukwu, told members of the public to disregard the rumour.

“Our attention has been drawn to an online misinformation to the effect that former Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, has joined the Labour Party.

“This is false and should be disregarded,” the statement reads.

The lawmaker after withdrawing from the race for the PDP governorship ticket had promised to keep his political supporters updated about his next move, Naija News recalls.

The statement had read: “I wish to inform our supporters and Nigerians that the former Deputy President of the Senate and foremost governorship aspirant in Enugu State, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, will not be participating in the PDP governorship primary election scheduled for this Wednesday, May 25, 2022.

“Meanwhile, we continue to trust God as we appreciate our teeming supporters and the good people of Enugu State for the enormous goodwill they have ceaselessly invested in the actualisation of the “Pathway to a New Enugu State”.

“We urge them to remain peaceful and be assured that we will keep them abreast of our decision on the way forward.”
