Ekiti: Demola Popoola Speaks On Inviting Thugs To Disrupt Election

A governorship aspirant under the All Progressives Congress, Demola Popoola has distanced himself from reports that he brought political thugs to disrupt the APC primary election.

Popoola in a statement released in Ado-Ekiti on Thursday described the allegation levelled against him in a video as a script by desperate politicians who have planned to destroy his image.

The Ekiti State Police Command on Wednesday arrested some suspects and questioned them.

The suspects while speaking noted that they came to the state to protect Popoola during his tour and they were about to set out, but some persons misconstrued the statement and alleged that Popoola brought thugs.

The statement released by Popoola reads, “Please note these facts from the respondents to the questions in the viral video

“First, according to the confession, it was revealed that the people arrested were not thugs, hooligans or hired assassins but members of the Odua People’s Congress, OPC.

“Secondly, there have been several threats to life, calls from other contenders to all Otunba’Demola Popoola ODEP’s Ward Coordinators which had earlier been petitioned and submitted to the DSS and AIG

“Third, according to the confession from the members of Odua People’s Congress, they were not invited to disrupt the APC Primary Election but to protect and defend Otunba’ Demola Popoola and his team from being attacked during his Local Government Tour, which ended yesterday.”
