Cheltenham Festival win: Betfair punter scoops over £21k after picking the first four winners with no favourites

PICKING one winner at the Cheltenham Festival is hard enough.

But this genius Betfair punter picked the first FOUR winners on Thursday to scoop over £21,000 — and none of them were favourites!

Sire Du Berlais was the shock winner of the Stayers’ Hurdle at Cheltenham FestivalGETTY

It’s been a tricky day for most punters with odds-on chances Mighty Potter and Shishkin both failing to justify their short prices.

But woe for favourite-backers was wonderful for this bettor, who wisely selected four fairly unfancied runners in their £1 each way Lucky 31 accumulator.

Things couldn’t have started better when Stage Star won the Turners Novices’ Chase at 7/1, beating Mighty Potter and Appreciate It.

Good Time Jonny then hacked up by over three lengths in the Pertemps Network Final Handicap Hurdle at 15/2.

There may have been temptation to cash out at this point, but the Betfair customer held their nerve with two still needed.

Our punter was made to sweat in the Ryanair Chase as Shishkin produced a late charge to hunt down 10/1 shot Envoi Allen.

£30 £21,114.70!

But Rachael Blackmore held on to land the Grade 1 race leaving just the longest shot of all for a cool 21,114.70!

Sire Du Berlais went off at a bumper 20/1 in the Stayers’ Hurdle.

A group of horses were all in with a shout entering the final furlong with Dashel Drasher, Teahupoo and Flooring Porter all in with a shout.

But jockey Mark Walsh burst through on Sire Du Berlais and held tough to clinch victory for trainer Gordon Elliott and this mystery punter.
