Chelsea Former Player, John Sillett Is Dead

Former English professional footballer and coach, John Sillett has been confirmed dead.

Naija News understands that the former Chelsea player died at the age of 85.

The deceased’s family confirmed the sportsman’s death in a statement released on Tuesday, November 30, though didn’t disclose the cause of Sillett’s death.

The statement read “Obviously the family are really saddened by Dad’s passing but we are all so proud of him and what he achieved.

“His ability to spot things tactically, change them during a game and enhance the abilities of players was top class, the respect he had from top people in the game and the kind words we have already received already underline the high regard in which he was held by the football world.”

Naija News understands that Sillett played for Chelsea in 1954 as a full-back, he also played for Coventry City and Plymouth Argyle.

He won the Championship with Chelsea in 1955, playing alongside his brother Peter Sillett.

The Southampton-born defender played over 100 games for Chelsea and won the First Division title at Stamford Bridge in the 1954-55 season.

In another news, English Premier League club, Manchester City are reportedly considering signing up Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema.
