Chad’s Deby to stay on, amidst extension of transition for elections

Chadian Officials have disclosed that Mahamat Idriss Deby will stay on as head of state in the interim, while the transition term towards democratic elections extended .
The officials made the statement to make sure the military leader is eligible to run for the presidency when elections are held.
The Chadian officials unanimously agreed at a national reconciliation dialogue forum.
The announcement which was made available by Ahmat Barchire, Rapporteur of the National Sovereign Inclusive Dialogue (DNIS) said: “Based on the transition, they noted broad consensus to set it within a period of 24 months.”
The second consensus was based on eligibility and ineligibility, that any Chadian who fulfils the conditions set by the law can vote and be voted for.”
Chad, has experienced reoccurring unrest since it became independent from France in 1960.
