Bryony Frost: My King George return on Frodon hinges on Monday’s crucial fitness test… I’m desperate to ride again

IT’S been a frustrating few weeks kicking my heels on the sidelines.

But, on the bright side, for the first time in my life, I’ve got all my Christmas shopping done in good time!

I’ve got everyone’s presents sorted, though wrapping them up will be another matter entirely.

I usually save that for Christmas Eve in between lots at Ditcheat and I expect it will be the same story again this year.

I had a good physio session at the Injured Jockeys Fund yesterday and things are looking positive on the injury front.

The doctors are pleased with how my collarbone is healing and I’ve been strengthening up as much as I can.

There is a new IJF hub opened up in Taunton now which is extremely helpful for those of us based down in the south west.

So far so good, but the big day is Monday when I’ll have my fitness tests to see if I can be signed off to return to riding.

Dr Jerry Hill at the BHA is great and understands jockeys want to get back in the saddle as quickly as possible.

Your emotions can be up and down when you’re injured so he makes the process of getting back as trouble-free as possible.

All being well I will be riding out again next week and then back in time to ride Frodon in the King George on Boxing Day.

I really hope I am cleared for that because it is shaping up to be a cracking race — and a very important one for the yard.

As well as Frode, Ditcheat is set to have Bravemansgame and Hitman in the race. They have both been working very nicely so it is fingers crossed everything goes well between now and Monday week at Kempton.

Harry Cobden will be on Bravemansgame — and Hitman is a lovely ride for Sam Twiston-Davies to pick up.

They are the two market leaders . . . but don’t forget about Frode!

As we know only too well, he has been there, done that and got the t-shirt.

He comes alive on the big occasions — and there are few bigger ones in racing than King George Day. It will be an exciting meeting with four Grade 1s.

Going right-handed on good ground will suit Frode and he’s had a bit of a rest since Haydock before being brought back up to speed.

Although I haven’t been able to ride him he is apparently in great nick at home.

It’s an incredibly busy time of year for the yard and we’ll be running some nice horses when the thaw comes.

I am chomping at the bit to be fit in time and can’t wait to get back in the saddle.

As always, stay safe and keep kicking!
