Bookies slash odds of two rogue Derby outsiders after ‘impressive’ Epsom gallops

BOOKIES have slashed the odds of two rogue Derby outsiders – after ‘particularly impressive’ Epsom gallops.

William Hill are on the defensive over two horses in particular after they attracted plenty of punter support at massive odds.

Sun Racing told you Deira Mile was being tipped to run a big race by jockey Jim Crowley.

He was in the saddle for Tuesday’s workout and couldn’t speak highly enough of the Ahmad Al Shaikh-owned colt.

Deira Mile, who was available at as big as 66-1 earlier in the week, is now into just 25-1.

While Roger Teal’s Dancing Gemini has been cut from 20-1 to 12-1 as punters look to clean up some each way ante-post value.

Spokesperson for William Hill, Lee Phelps, said: “Epsom’s Derby Gallops Morning can often provide interesting insight into Derby contenders.

“This year looks no different, and we were particularly impressed by how Deira Mile and Dancing Gemini handled Tattenham Corner and Epsom’s unique configuration.

“As a result, we’ve significantly shortened Deira Mile from 66-1 into 25-1.

“And good support for Dancing Gemini has seen him trimmed into 12/1 from 20/1.”

Part of the reason for their prices collapsing has been the decision not to supplement Economics at a cost of £75,000.

William Haggas will not run the six-length Dante winner in the world’s most famous Flat race.

He said: “After discussions with his owner His Highness Sheikh Isa, we have decided that Economics will not run in either the English or the French Derby next weekend.

“We think that the turnaround is very tight for both races and feel he is still maturing.

“As such, we will give him more time and prepare him for an exciting summer campaign over ten furlongs.

“At this stage, we feel it is unlikely that he will race over a mile and a half this year.”
