Benzema Linked To Man City After Missing Out On 2021 Ballon d’Or Award

English Premier League club, Manchester City are reportedly considering signing up Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema.

Naija News understands that the French International made it to the last five 2021 Ballon d’Or nominee lists on Monday night.

Paris Saint Germain striker, Lionel Messi, was, however, awarded the most prestigious players individual award by the organizers last night, with Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski finishing second.

However, reporting on Tuesday morning, La Nacional said Premier League champions, City could move for Benzema when he enters the final year of his contract in June 2022.

Naija News understands that Pep Guardiola’s side spent all of the last summer trying the to sign Harry Kane from rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

City’s efforts to get the England national team captain was rebuffed by Spurs chairman, Daniel Levy.

City at a point was also linked with Cristiano Ronaldo, who has since returned to Manchester United.

Guardiola’s side has suffered not having a centre-forward this season considering Gabriel Jesus coming off the right-hand side of a front three.

The likes of Bernardo Silva, Ferran Torres, Jack Grealish, Raheem Sterling and Phil Foden have also been deployed in the middle of that forward line in recent months.

However, Benzema’s move to City may be a difficult deal to seal in the nearest summer as the 33-year-old striker is currently in form helping the La Liga side under coach Carlo Ancelotti.

Meanwhile, Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo has denied saying that his only ambition is to “retire with more Ballon d’Or than Lionel Messi”.

Ronaldo made this known on Monday in a statement released on his Instagram page while reacting to a claim made by the editor of France Football, Pascal Ferré.

Ferre had in an interview with the New York Times claimed that the Portuguese told him his only one ambition in life is to retire with more Ballon d’Or than Messi.

However, Ronaldo accused Ferre of falsehood during the interview, saying that the journalist was using his name for “clout”.
