Atiku, Obi React To Canadian High Commission Fire Incident

The 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, has expressed serious concern over the fire incidents in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

It would be recalled that a part of the Canadian High Commission was gutted by fire on Monday following a diesel tank explosion in the embassy. Two persons were said to have died in the incident while one other person was critically injured.

Also, one of the Samsung electronic showrooms in Abuja caught fire on Monday night, which led to the loss of electrical appliances worth millions of naira.

In a statement on his official X account on Tuesday, Obi expressed sympathy over the deaths of the two persons in the Canadian High Commission incident and the loss of properties in the Samsung showroom fire inferno.

The former Governor of Anambra State called on the federal government and the relevant authorities to carry out investigations into the causes of the fire incidents.

He wrote: “The reports of the two fire incidents that rocked the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, yesterday, are very concerning.

“First, a fire incident was reported at the Canadian High Commission, Abuja, where about 2 people reportedly lost their lives, and next was the Samsung office at the Banex Junction in Wuse 2, Abuja, where goods worth millions of naira have been destroyed.

“While I urge the government and the relevant agencies, to carry out investigations into the causes of the fire incidents, I send my sincere sympathies to the Canadian High Commission @CanHCNigeria over this sad occurrence.

“I also commiserate with the business owners at the Samsung Office in Abuja who have lost a fortune to the inferno.

“These are very challenging times, but I encourage them not to despair. May God grant eternal rest to the dead, heal the wounded, and comfort the afflicted.”

Also reacting, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar commiserated with the Government of Canada over the fire incident at its High Commission in Nigeria.

The Waziri of Adamawa also expressed sadness over the loss of lives and injuries sustained in the fire outbreak.

In a post via his X handle on Monday, he wrote: “I offer my condolences to the Government of Canada over the fire incident at its High Commission in Nigeria today and the resultant loss of lives and injuries sustained.

“I pray that the dead find rest and that the injured recover speedily.”
