Atiku: “Look At The Insult” – Another Northerner Shouldn’t Take Over From Buhari – Wike Declares

The Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike on Sunday declared that it is unjustifiable for another northerner to emerge as the leader of Nigeria after President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023.

The Governor submitted that people pushing such narratives were simply insulting the sensibility of Nigerians as such does not promote national cohesion.

Wike was quoted in a statement by his media aide, Kelvin Ebiri to have made his position known at the special dedication service for the Rivers Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) 2023 General election campaign rallies at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Port Harcourt.

He argued that just as Nigeria does not need the Muslim-Muslim ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC), another northern president is not good for the nation’s structure.

The fresh statement by the Rivers State Governor is coming at a time he and some other stakeholders in the party incuding other Governors have rfused to support the ambition of the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

Speaking on Sunday, Wike said: “You play on people’s intelligence; you say Nigeria is not ripe for muslim-muslim ticket, I agree. But Nigeria is ripe for presidency to remain in one zone? I mean, just look at the insult. You blow hot and cold.”

Who Is Cheating Who

Continuing, Wike said it is not right for the same region that produced President Buhari to produce the next leader of the country in 2023 as it amounts to cheating other regions.

In his words, “Most of you just sit there, you don’t ask yourselves questions. Somebody continues to sell these kinds of cheap ideas. You don’t ask the person, I agree with what you are saying but look at what we are saying here.

“Your party wants the presidency to go to the same zone where President Muhammadu Buhari is coming from. Who is cheating who?”

Don’t Allow Yourself To Be Used

The Rivers Governor cautioned the church not to allow itself to be used by any politician who may want to play the religious card.

Wike vowed to resist any attempt to use the church for selfish political reasons.

He said: “It is not now that politics have come, you want to come and tell the church a different story for your own personal interest.

“We have to be careful so that the church is not destroyed. Because, all of us, for example, we are Anglicans, I will not allow anybody, for his selfish interest to destroy the church of Nigeria. I will not allow that.”
