Argentina Under FIFA Investigation After Win Over Netherlands

Lionel Messi’s side, Argentina is being investigated by Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) after their victory over the Netherlands on Friday.

The football governing body disclosed that Argentina is being investigated over some scenes during the quarter-final match.

The South Americans had won on Friday after defeating the Netherlands through spot kicks to book a place in the semi-finals.

Paris Saint Germain forward, Lionel Messi had set up Nahuel Molina to open the scoring before converting from the spot.

Argentina had thought they had qualified but Wout Weghorst came off the bench in the second half to force extra time with a late double.

It was a tough game that saw the central referee, Antonio Mateu Lahoz issue over a dozen yellow cards.

Lahoz also showed a red card to Dutch defender Denzel Dumfries after the match ended.

FIFA is now looking into the events of the game.

The statement released by the football governing body reads, “The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has opened proceedings against the Argentinian Football Association due to potential breaches of articles 12 (Misconduct of players and officials) and 16 (Order and security at matches) of the FIFA Disciplinary Code during the Netherlands v. Argentina FIFA World Cup match that took place on 9 December.”

Argentina head coach, Scaloni on Friday was shown a yellow card along with a number of members of his squad.

Weghorst, meanwhile, was booked long before entering the fray after an incident on the touchline.
