‘APC Man Was Watching, Thinking I Was Gathering Votes For PDP’ – Chinwetalu Agu Recounts Dramatic Arrest

Veteran Nigerian actor, Chinwetalu Agu has recounted his dramatic arrest for wearing a Biafran outfit and the outcry that followed at the time.

Naija News recalls that in 2021, a video had emerged online showing some soldiers harassing the movie star for putting on Biafra attire.

But the Nigerian army, in a statement, said the actor was arrested for canvassing support for the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.

According to the security agency, Agu was inciting members of the public and soliciting support for IPOB while dressed in a very well-known attire of the proscribed group.

Speaking during an interview with media personality, Chude Jideonwo, Chinwetalu Agu said the incident occurred during a visit to Onitsha.

According to the thespian, he went to greet a few people in Anambra State when some fans solicited help from him.

Agu said he decided to buy some loaves of bread for them, unknowing the crowd kept increasing.

The actor added that an All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, who saw the crowd, thought he was canvassing votes for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He said, “I finished a shoot in Asaba and came to Onitsha and wanted just to say hello to a few people, but they walled me out of hunger, serious hunger that I had to say, let me buy some loaves of bread, but as I was buying the population was increasing.

“I didn’t even know when the soldiers came until the way they did, It is not a thing you will find in a civilized country. What I heard from some people after the event was that an APC man was watching the crowd multiplying and was thinking that I was gathering votes for PDP.”
