Aisha Yesufu Reacts As Wike Orders Destruction Of 500 Impounded Commercial Motorcycles
Human Rights Activist, Aisha Yesufu, has reacted to the destruction of 500 impounded commercial motorcycles in Abuja.
Naija News reported that the Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, ordered the destruction.
The Joint Task Force of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) impounded and crushed the motorcycles on Thursday.
The seizure was said to have occurred during a search of strategic locations used by okada operators as operational routes such as Kpaduma II, Asokoro Extension, Galadimawa near Primary School, Gudu market, Kabusa junction, and Apo mechanic were all searched.
Before crushing the seized motorcycles in Area 1, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Commissioner of Police, Garba Haruna, said that the action was proof that the okada ban was still in effect.
Reacting to the development, Yesufu, in a post shared on Twitter, said governance must be with empathy.
She noted that it was wrong to take away the source of livelihood of the bike riders without providing any alternative.
She tweeted, “Governance must be with empathy. If they have committed traffic offenses, you fine them. Restrict them to certain areas in Abuja.
“These bike riders after a day’s hard job are tired and sleep at night. You then take away that source of livelihood without an alternative.
“When they have nothing to do all day, they will be sleeping and then be awake at night. Guess what can possibly happen!”
