#AbiaDecides2023: PDP, Labour Party Supporters, Agents Keep Vigil At INEC Office

It was a night of fun and anxiety for supporters and agents of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party (LP) in Abia State as they kept vigil at the premises of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) headquarters in Umuahia, in the state.

Naija News reports that the INEC premises in Umuahia was full of life as supporters and agents sang and danced as they await resumption of results collation on Monday (today).

It was gathered that INEC Returning Officer, Prof Nnenna Oti of the Federal University of Agriculture, Owerri, postponed the election announcement to 10:00 am on Monday.

The shift of collation was after results from 10 local government areas had been officially declared by the electoral umpire.

While supporters of the PDP candidate governorship  Okey Ahaiwe insisted on keeping vigil to prevent any incidences of results manipulation, supporters of the Labour Party’s candidate Dr Alex Otti also said they were not leaving the INEC premises for similar reasons.

This online news platform learnt from Daily Post that some PDP supporters from Isiala Ngwa North, the home LGA of Okey Ahaiwe of PDP, vowed to remain in the INEC office until Monday morning when collation continues.

Similarly, supporters of Labour Party’s Otti also warned against any attempt to deny him his looming victory, as they raised an alarm that there were attempts to smuggle in manipulated results from Obingwa LGA.

The 10 LGAs already declared in Abia governorship race are Ikwuano, Isukwuato, Umunneochi, Arochukwu and Bende, cleared by Dr Alex Otti and his Labour Party.

Others are Isiala Ngwa North, Isiala Ngwa South, Ugwunagbo, Ukwa East and Ukwa West LGAs won by Sir Okey Ahaiwe of PDP.

The LGAs yet to be declared as of Monday morning are Obingwa, Umuahia North, Umuahia South, Osisioma, Ohafia, Aba North and Aba South.

It was gathered that INEC officials were ready to resume election results announcements this morning in the midst of heavy security this morning.
