Abia: Ikpeazu Reacts To Alex Otti’s Election Victory

Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State has congratulated the Labor Party (LP) candidate, Alex Otti, for winning the governorship election in the state.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by his Chief Press Secretary, Onyebuchi Ememanka, Ikpeazu said Otti has fought a long battle and deserves commendation for his staying power and resilience.

The governor stated that the governor-elect must see his victory as a higher call to service to the people of Abia State.

He also commended the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Okey Ahiwe, for his doggedness and also commended other candidates for their participation in the election.

Ikpeazu assured the governor-elect that he will put in place every necessary measure to ensure a seamless transition from his administration to the next.

He said, “Since we have come to the logical end of this battle, it is appropriate to congratulate the winner, Dr Alex Otti on his hard-fought victory.

“In every battle, there will always be a winner and in the spirit of sportsmanship and love for our state, the Governor-elect must see his victory as a higher call to service to the people of Abia State”.

He, therefore, thanked the people of Abia State for voting in a very peaceful atmosphere and reminded them that peace remains very critical in the quest for sustainable development.

Ikpeazu, however, wished Otti God’s blessings and guidance and assured the people of the State that he will continue to discharge his duties until he hands over to the Governor-elect on May 29.

He also called for an end to distracting governors with court cases and asked the candidates who lost to allow the governor-elect to concentrate on providing good governance.

He said: “Having myself spent about three and half years in different courts and having experienced firsthand, the distraction such cases can cause a leader, I appeal to every candidate in this election not to distract the incoming administration with court cases, so that they will settle down and deal with the very demanding business of governance.

“Let us break this negative trend of subjecting our Governors to endless litigations and allow them to concentrate on providing good governance.”

Naija News reports that Otti defeated his main rivals like PDP’s Ahiwe and Enyinnaya Nwafor of the Young Peoples Party (YPP). Otti scored 175,467, Ahiwe polled 88,529 and Nwafor got 28,972.

The LP candidate also won 10 of the 17 local government areas in the state, PDP got six while the YPP got one.
