Abia Election Result: INEC Gives Update, Speaks On Moving Collation To Abuja

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has denied trending reports that it will move the collation of the Abia State Governorship election results to Abuja.

The electoral body in reaction to enquiries on the rumours described it as fake.

Speculations had emerged on Tuesday that the results had been taken to the INEC headquarters in Abuja, with unnamed sources saying the collation would now be concluded in the nation’s capital.

However, the electoral body has debunked the rumours.

“It’s fake news,” INEC National Commissioner in charge of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye was quoted to have said by Vanguard in reaction to enquiries.

Naija News recalls INEC had on Monday suspended further collation of governorship election results in some parts of Abia state over reports of irregularities in the process and attack on its officials in Obingwa Local Government Area.

Collation Resumes Today

Meanwhile, the suspended collation of the Abia State governorship election results will resume by 4:00pm today (Wednesday) at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) headquarters in Umuahia which is the state collation centre.

Naija News gathered the Presiding Officer and Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology Owerri, FUTO, Professor Nnenna Oti; and the State Administrative Secretary, Clement Oha, who were invited to the INEC headquarters in Abuja, over the controversy from the Obingwa results, were on their way back to the state, to complete the process.

This development was confirmed to Vanguard by the INEC Head of Voter Education and Publicity in Abia State, Mrs. Rebecca Jim.
