2023: Pro-Wike Governors Give Conditions To Support Atiku

The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, is expected to meet with governors loyal to Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, over the weekend on the crisis rocking the party.

According to a source that spoke with Daily Independent, the governors have agreed to give Atiku conditions before supporting his presidential ambition.

A member of Governor Wike’s strategy team, who spoke on condition of anonymity on Tuesday, stated that the aggrieved governors have agreed to remain in the party.

He said one of the conditions the governors would place before Atiku during their meeting is for him to serve for one term if he emerges president in 2023.

Other conditions to be tabled before the former vice president include, sharing of political appointments and the rezoning of party offices.

The source said, “Yes, it is true. We will be meeting with the presidential candidate and we will table our conditions before him.

“Governor Wike has given us the go-ahead and we believe we will achieve something positive in the end.

“One of the conditions is that he (Atiku) must agree to do just one term.

“Others include the sharing of political appointments in the presidency if our party wins. We are confident of winning so we should discuss the sharing of appointments now.

“Another one has to do with the continued stay of the national chairman, Iyorchia Ayu.

“The presidential candidate recently said he can only step down if he wins while some of us believe that was not the agreement we had before the convention held in October last year.

“Hopefully, all these will be resolved during our meeting.”
