2023: Picture Of Zulum And Tinubu Sparks Rumour Of His Emergence As Presidential Running Mate

A viral image of the Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum and the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Bola Tinubu has sparked rumours about Zulum emerging as the 2023 vice presidential candidate of the ruling party.

In the picture trending on the internet and across social media platforms, Tinubu is seen raising the hands of Zulum.

Some political and social media groups have even started celebrating the emergence of Zulum as the running mate of Tinubu.

However, information available to Naija News has it that Tinubu has not picked Zulum but is considering him as one of the options.

This online news medium earlier reported that while Tinubu has reportedly rejected the chance to pick either Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State or Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State as his running mate, he has zeroed his search on Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State or his predecessor, Senator Kashim Shettima.

The former Lagos governor is expected to consult on who he should pick between Zulum and Shettima when he returns from France.

“The race for the running mate for Asiwaju has been reduced to just two men. They are the Governor of Borno State, Babagana Zulum, and his predecessor, Kashim Shettima, who is the senator representing Borno Central Senatorial District. All things being equal, the running mate should emerge between these two men,” a source told Punch.

Back in May, 2022, Governor Babagana Zulum also disclosed that he does not want to be a running mate to any presidential aspirant in the 2023 general elections.

The governor stated that he wants to continue to provide the dividends of democracy to the people of Borno State and complete his achievements in his second term.

Zulum made this known after emerging the 2023 governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.

The governor polled 1,411 votes out of 1,411 votes recorded to secure the governorship ticket of the ruling party in the North-East state.

However, Zulum apologised to the presidential aspirants that sent him offers for the position of running mate, saying that he wants to concentrate on making Borno a safe place for all citizens.

It however remains to be seen if Zulum will change his mind as pressure continue to increase for him to be chosen as Tinubu’s running mate for the 2023 presidential election.
