2023: Natasha Akpoti, 50,000 SDP Members Decamp To PDP In Kogi

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has gained more members in Kogi State as former governorship candidate, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, decamped alongside her supporters.

Akpoti had run for the post of Kogi Central Senatorial District seat under the Social Democratic Party in the year 2019.

The 42-year-old politician also participated in the November 16, 2019 governorship election in the state under the same party, Naija News reports.

However, ahead of the 2023 general election, the female politician alongside over fifty thousand supporters in Ihema, Okehi Local Government Area of the State dumped SDP and declared their loyalty for PDP.

At the official defection ceremony, the PDP national chairman, Iyorchia Ayu boasted that the party will return Nigeria to its glorious days.

Ayu said the All Progressive Congress, APC government led by President Muhammadu Buhari, has bastardized Nigeria’s socio-economic prosperity.

He promised that PDP coming 2023 will fix the nation to its right position.

The defection of Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan to the PDP from the SDP laid to rest the several weeks of speculations.

Addressing the large crowd of Natasha’s supporters, Ayu, who spoke through the party’s National Secretary, Senator Sam Anyanwu, said it was time for Nigerians to use the current economic situation of the coua entry as a yardstick to send the APC out of government.

In his remark, Kogi State PDP chairman, Sam Ohutu said Natasha’s defection to the umbrella camp was a massive boost to the party’s fortunes

On her part, Natasha said she will contest the Kogi central senatorial election and called on those who intimidated her in the last election to have a rethink as she is on a fearless outing this time.

The defection ceremony was attended by members cutting across its hierarchy in Nigeria, as the PDP is hopeful of a politically bumper harvest in 2023, Naija News reports.
